A New Term – Maybe You’ve Heard of It

It was a big disappointment to discover that a word I thought up recently was actually coined long enough ago to be the name of a book and the name of a ministry, have a Facebook page, and have an entry in the Urban Dictionary,

When I initially thought of the word it was as I was praying for some lost friends and thanking the Lord that he was revealing Himself to them.  As I moved through that prayer I realized that God reveals Himself for relationship.

The Urban Dictionary definition would have to be tweaked to apply to our revelationship to God.

A relationship in which each involved party acquires increasing knowledge through every interaction with one another.

The difference for believers is that God is the only one who needs to reveal Himself because He already knows everything about us.

God reveals himself to us in many ways.   He is reaching out to build relationship with us through Christ.

The key ways God reveals Himself to us are:

Scripture

The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether – Psalm 19:7-9

Creation

The a heavens proclaim the glory of God.
The skies display his craftsmanship.
Day after day they continue to speak;
night after night they make him known.
They speak without a sound or word;
their voice is never heard.
Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
and their words to all the world.  Psalm 19:1-4

Holy Spirit

The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. Romans 8:16-17

Join me soon for some additional thoughts on someone else’s new word – revelationship.

Father, thank you for the many ways you choose to reveal yourself to us as believers.  Thank you that you are even now revealing yourself to non-believers that they may come to know you and make you Lord.
